Vid Pick: Planningtorock "Doorway"

While I live for videos packed with multi-layered concepts, complex symbolism and a good dance routine (looking at you Lady Gaga), sometimes simplicity can work as well as the best over-the-top theatrics. Such is the case with Planningtorock's new video for her single "Doorway." A few changes of color hue, striking mirror-image shots and prosthetic makeup all combine to create a clip that is haunting and captivating. Watch it below, and download it here.

Tera Melos Release New Track, Announce Deluxe Edition of Pantagonian Rats

Sacramento genre-busters (genre smashers is more like it) Tera Melos have released a new track from their six-song Zoo Weather EP, currently available on cassette (cassette, really?) as well as digital download. The new song, "Manar The Magic," filled to the brim with rollicking electronic effects, overdubbed vocals and a spoken-word cameo from Mike Watt, seems to pick up where the band's last release Pantagonian Rats left off.  Zoo Weather contains three new tracks and three remixes, including one by Japanese noise legends Melt Banana.

Two more tracks and a deluxe digital edition of Pantagonian Rats will be available soon. Tera Melos is currently on a co-headlining tour with guitar goddess Marnie Stern, set to end in on March 19th. Listen to "Manar The Magic" and view the remaining tour dates below:

Aficionado: "The Same Original Idea"

Picture crashing drum rolls bashing alongside roaring power chords unleashing punk-rock fury before morphing into twisted, Master of Puppets-style dueling guitars, while an organ, piano and a flute steal moments from the chaos to get solo spotlights between vocals that sound like a bizarro version of School House Rock. All in the course of a single song. Somehow, Albany-based post-punk band Aficionado make this tangled web of instruments and styles work, creating a strange (did I mention there was a flute), wacky, but subversively catchy track.
